27 December 2016 a national public holiday

Posted by on Sep 27, 2016 in News, Payroll, Payroll administration services, Payroll Outsourcing | 0 comments

South African President Jacob Zuma has again made headlines after declaring 27 December 2016 a national public holiday. Section 2 (1) of the Public Holidays Act, 1994, states that whenever a public holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be a holiday. This year the Monday following the 25th December is another public holiday (26th December – Day of Goodwill). This has resulted in two public holidays overlapping. Most people, we expect, would be very pleased to hear that there is effectively another day off over the festive season, but there are very real implications for both employer and employee. It is important to note that as an official public holiday, workers are not unduly disadvantaged and are still entitled to 12 paid public holidays. Employers making use of leave calendars on their payroll systems should update the calendar by adding 27 December as a public holiday. This is important for any business and could have real implications from a payroll perspective, if overlooked. Our mandate is to keep a close eye on all HR and payroll developments, how and why they impact the market, and make sure we are in a position to guide businesses every step of the way. Another public holiday on the surface sounds like a great idea, but it does require that businesses adapt their payroll accordingly. We invite any business or decision maker to consult with our experienced legislation team (info@crs.co.za) who can...

The social HR-focused experiment that is ‘Simone’

Posted by on Sep 21, 2016 in Blog, HR Solutions | 0 comments

At CRS Technologies we like to think of ourselves as the place where innovation and people meet. We reflect this in the novel and progressive way we communicate our ideas, our passion and our technology. The Simone virtual campaign is a good example. This is a powerful narrative played out online and using social networks to illustrate how the HR lifecycle works. We believe it is an effective way to explain the value of our technology and the functionality it houses to automate and assist businesses to manage this lifecycle – from ‘cradle to the grave’. We know that our solution enables users to keep comprehensive records of applicants, including demographics, biographical details, previous employment, qualifications and references – the ‘ins and outs’ of HR information. And we also know that this functionality is integral to several key processes related to recruitment including interviews, onboarding, leave applications, performance management and training. By using Simone and her journey with the fictitious company ‘Sky’s the Limit’, we are able to explain how a company can leverage an end-to-end view of the business, how individuals can be consistently evaluated and manipulate real-time information at any stage of the lifecycle. It is an interesting and captivating insight into business behaviour from an individual’s perspective and now we are adding a new dimension. Since Simone has a Facebook account, we will see what happens when she ‘misuses’ the account and has to face disciplinary action, another important and key link in the HR lifecycle. As they say in the classics, watch this space… HR is always active and never boring, it requires constant attention and a commitment to understand the ever-changing...

Professional, passionate and purposeful – our collective, core value proposition

Posted by on Sep 21, 2016 in Blog | 0 comments

In today’s business landscape you are truly only as strong as your weakest link, and talk is very cheap – it is actions that matter (and, more importantly consistency in action). Many companies profess to be people-centric and all about service, but today’s market is unforgiving and will quickly see through disingenuous customer engagement. A clear value system that is enforced and adhered to will set you apart from competitors. That is why a value system in business is so important – for both companies and individuals. So what do we stand for? We consistently remind the market that we are a people-centric business, it is people that are the driving force behind what we do and why we do it. Our value system is designed around this message. We believe in team work, in open communication and collaboration. We are involved and passionate. CRS Technologies is a HCM industry leader that recognises the importance of taking initiative and people empowerment. We reward hard work and strongly endorse the ethos of pride in what we do, with the intention to build our workforce. Ultimately, no matter how noble your intentions and how much work you put into client service, if the customer is not satisfied, your business has failed in its number one objective. We continue to engage our customers regularly and professionally to understand what people solutions are required. That is our policy framework and that is what drives the management of our values. CRS stands for service delivery that is customer focused, professional and solutions driven. As individuals representing this progressive business, we need to collaborate, be transparent and operate with...
