How can we begin any other way than by saying thank you to our national team. Despite going out in the first round, Bafana Bafana has galvanised South Africa in a way we would have found hard to imagine just a month ago. This World Cup has done so much to highlight the country as an exceptional investment region, and set aside many naïve sentiments held by people about what Africa is really like. Our infrastructure and our service industry are now clearly seen to be of global standard.

Football aside though, the next couple of months hold some rather significant work for everyone in the HR and payroll worlds. I urge you to take some time to read just how fraught the new legislative requirements are, but most importantly, how you can use this challenge as a serious competitive advantage.

CRS will be hosting conferences in four provinces at the end of July / beginning of August. At these, we will explain the intricacies of new 2010 and 2011 tax requirements and we hope to see many of you there. See below for dates and how to register.

Until then, enjoy the rest of this great world event. It truly is a time to celebrate being proudly South African.

Until next time,

James McKerrell
