New harassment law – what is your role?
Did you know the law has changed regarding harassment?
It’s important to consider harassment in its entirety and also understand that the law covers all forms of harassment, including:
- Bullying
- Physical abuse
- Emotional abuse
- Gender-based violence
- Racial abuse
- Physiological abuse
- Sexual abuse
Your company is obliged to implement policies and procedures as part of its code to address harassment. The code must clearly state how a business will manage and eliminate abuse and/or harassment in all its forms.
Remember, every interaction with every employee is considered part of this code.
The onus is on the employer to ensure that all employees are aware of how their behaviour can be interpreted by others, and how to manage behaviour within the law.
