SEPTEMBER 2026 – MAURITIUS
GANESH CHATURTHI PUBLIC HOLIDAY DATE CHANGED FOR 2026
It is important that employers note the following:
Mauritius changes Ganesh Chaturthi public holiday date
The Government of Mauritius has amended the 2026 public holiday calendar, changing the Ganesh Chaturthi public holiday from Wednesday, 16 September 2026 to Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
The amendment was published under General Notice No. 611 of 2026 and confirms that Ganesh Chaturthi will be observed on 15 September 2026.
Ganesh Chaturthi is a Hindu festival celebrating Lord Ganesha, the deity associated with wisdom, prosperity, new beginnings and the removal of obstacles. The festival falls on the fourth day of a Hindu lunar month, so its Gregorian date changes annually.
Employers should update payroll calendars, attendance and leave systems, work schedules and public holiday pay calculations to reflect the revised date. Wednesday, 16 September 2026 should generally be treated as a normal working day.
