SEPTEMBER 2026 – ZIMBABWE
NEW ANNUAL PUBLIC HOLIDAY DECLARED
It is important that employers note the following:
15 September declared new public holiday
The Zimbabwean Government has gazetted Statutory Instrument 148 of 2026, declaring 15 September an annual public holiday known as Munhumutapa Day. The proclamation was issued in terms of section 2(2) of the Public Holidays and Prohibition of Business Act [Chapter 10:21] and takes immediate effect. As a result, 15 September will be observed as a public holiday in Zimbabwe each year.
Employer impact
Employers operating in Zimbabwe should update their public holiday calendars and review payroll, leave, time and attendance, and overtime calculations to accommodate the additional annual public holiday effective from 15 September 2026.
