COIDA SCHEDULE 4 COMPENSATION AND MONTHLY PENSIONS
It is important that employers note the following:
Amendment of Schedule 4 and monthly pensions under the COID Act
On 9 May 2025 the Department of Employment and Labour published Government Gazette 52607 Notice 3184 of 2025, in which the Minister of Employment and Labour announced several updates to the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases (COID) Act:
- From 1 April 2025, in terms of Section 55, new compensation rates (Schedule 4) will apply to workplace accidents and occupational diseases diagnosed on or after 1 April 2025.
- From 1 March 2025, in terms of Section 83(8), which deals with the assessment of an employer, the minimum annual earnings used to calculate compensation will increase to R88,688, while the maximum will increase to R633,168.
- From 1 April 2025, in terms of Section 57(1), monthly pensions payable under Section 49(4) (for permanent disablement) and Sections 54(1)(a), (b), (c) and (d) (for compensation in the event of an employee’s death) will increase by 5% for workers injured or diagnosed before 31 March 2025. Additionally, the Constant Attendance Allowance will increase by 6%.
The table in the official notice also shows the benefits effective from 1 April 2024.
